Caribbean Getaways: 5 Most Popular Activities
This is a guest post from the lovely people at Virgin Holidays, who somehow knew I’m suddenly in the market for an adventurous family holiday outside of Europe.
Soft white sand, crystal clear blue water and land that stretches for miles dotted by gorgeous palm trees.
If you’re planning to take a Caribbean break, you may very well be tempted to spend all of your time on the beach. And for many, that is the best way to take a holiday. For others, who crave adventure and activities, the beach is just not enough.
The good news is that the Caribbean offers much more than just the ocean. Here are some of the most popular activities to do in the Caribbean:
1. Private Yacht Charter
If vacationing in luxury is your kind of thing, look into hiring a private yacht. It’s a great way to sail around the island that you are visiting, and provides some stunning views. The yacht can also make stops to take part in activities such as snorkelling and swimming. Also enjoy some delicious food and beverages on board.
2. Snorkeling
One of the best things about snorkeling is that almost anyone can do it, and you’ll be able to see things you’ve never seen before. Snorkelers are set up with equipment and usually are brought by boat out to a reef. Just submerging your face into the water will introduce you to an amazing world of fish and sea life. Bring an underwater camera to really capture the memories and take home some stunning photographs!
3. Scuba Diving
Scuba certified visitors can take the exploration of the ocean to a whole different level. The islands in the Caribbean offer amazing opportunities for scuba diving out in the open water. If you want to learn how but have never had the chance before, there are also several locations on the islands that offer scuba certification courses.
4. Island Jeep Tour
Traveling around the island by jeep is a rugged, exciting way to travel. You’ll still get to see the sights, and you can go beyond the resorts and the beaches to see more of the island. Most jeep tours are run by skilled professionals who will keep you safe and also give you plenty of information about the places you are seeing and visiting.
5. Submarine
Another way to get under the water and see some of the remarkable sea creatures is by submarine. In the Caribbean, past and below the beach, there are real submarines that will take visitors down below the water’s surface to see reef, fish, and sea creatures. It is a safe way to see the underwater world without being in the water yourself – so if you can’t swim or prefer not to, consider hopping on a submarine so you won’t miss out on everything that is under the sea.
